Every client’s real balance sheet, entity structure and planning calendar in one place — reconciled across custodians, organized by entity, cited to the source. One sign-in, read-only, for every household that grants you access.
The sample firm opens straight into the real product — no account, no form, no call first. From $199/month for the firm when you’re ready, up to 750 client households.
- Read-only, always
- The household approves every grant
- Revocable at any time
Walk a book before you buy one
Northlight Planning is an invented firm with seven invented clients. Open it and you get the real product with fabricated data — no account, no form, no call first.
Seven households, $35.9M, 77 accounts
A real book's worth of complexity — trusts, an LLC, private funds and equity comp, not four tidy rows.
One review nine days overdue
Sitting at the top of the queue, where the thing you have already missed belongs.
A household hiding two accounts
From its own adviser. You see the count and never the contents — walk in and try to find them.
A prospect who has approved nothing
Tracked as a relationship with notes and tasks, and not a single balance visible.
A dormant client, and a clean one
Because a sample book where every client is urgent proves nothing about yours.
Six surfaces, open on day one
Every one of these is live the moment your firm has a seat — nothing here is a roadmap item wearing a launch date.
Your whole book, in date order
Every open task and every review that is due or overdue, across every client, in one dated list. Overdue first — not a league table sorted by who is biggest.
The relationship, on the record
Stage, segment, owning advisor and review cadence for every household, with calls, meetings and emails logged against the client. Kept before they grant access, and kept if they revoke it.
Ninety seconds before the call
What actually changed since you last spoke, assembled and printable under your own letterhead. Every prompt is a question — Formation observes, you advise.
Their real dashboard, read-only
Open any client's actual Formation dashboard — entity-organized and cited to the custodian. The same surface the household uses, not a thinner copy.
What moved while you weren't watching
A ranked feed across the whole book — a capital call eighteen days out, an ISO window closing, a review that slipped. Ranked by what changed, not by account size.
Who owns what, at a glance
Every advisor gets their own sign-in, and the book shows what each of them is carrying — clients owned, work outstanding, and any relationship nobody has picked up yet.
Put your own name, mark and colour on the workspace and on every brief you print — and export the whole book to CSV for the compliance file.
The household decides. Every time.
You are never granted a client. You are granted access by a client, and only for as long as they want you to have it. Day one, you build the whole book anyway — as CRM records, before anyone has approved anything.
You request access by email
From your firm's roster, using the household owner's email address. You can track a prospect as a relationship long before you can see a single balance.
The household approves it
Inside their own Formation account, on their own time. Formation never adds a household to your book on your say-so — and never on ours.
You get a read-only seat
Their whole picture across every custodian and entity. They can revoke it at any moment without asking us, and nothing about your CRM record is lost if they do.
If a client hides an account from you, you see the count and never the contents. That filter runs on the server and fails closed — if Formation cannot prove your view is correctly scoped, it shows you nothing rather than guessing. It is the same rule that lets a household say yes to you in the first place. How the platform itself is secured →

Your client arrives organized.
Organized by entity — trust, LLC, joint, personal — the way titling actually works.
Cross-custodian, wash-sale-aware tax-loss harvesting across every brokerage.
Every figure cited to its source — sourced, computed, estimated, or stale.
K-1 ingestion, multi-state exposure, and full equity-comp tracking.
Statement upload for anything that connects to nothing — PDF, CSV, OFX.
Beneficiaries, insurance and estate documents, in one vault they control.
Before you set it up
Is the advisor view really read-only?
Yes, structurally — not as a setting someone could flip. No endpoint behind a professional seat writes household data, so you cannot move money, place a trade, or edit a client's records from your seat. Neither can Formation: we are not a custodian and never touch the money.
How is the data itself secured?
Custodian connections are read-only and handled by Plaid, so a client's banking credentials never touch Formation's servers. Data is AES-256 encrypted at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit, two-factor authentication is available on every account, and every time you open a client is written to that household's own access log — they can audit you without asking us. The full posture is published at /security.
What does my client have to do?
They keep their own Formation account, connect their custodians there, and approve your request from inside it. Formation never adds a household to your book without the owner saying yes, and the owner can revoke your access at any time without asking us.
What if a client doesn't want me to see a particular account?
They can hide it from you. You see that a hidden account exists — the count — and never its contents. The filter runs on the server and fails closed: if Formation cannot prove your view is correctly scoped, it shows you nothing rather than guessing.
Is Formation an RIA? Is it advising my clients?
No. Formation is not a registered investment adviser and gives no personalized advice. AURA, Formation's AI, is education-only and cites every number to its source — it frames scenarios and flags timing, never recommendations. You advise; Formation keeps the books honest.
Do you take a cut of AUM, or a revenue share?
No. There is no AUM take, no revenue share, and no fund to sell. Your firm pays a flat monthly subscription and you own the client relationship from the introduction forward.
None of my clients use Formation yet. Where does that leave me?
Exactly where you'd want to start. You can add every client to your book on day one as a CRM record — stage, segment, owner, review date, notes and tasks — and work the relationship before anyone has approved anything. Access arrives as clients say yes, one at a time, and the record you already built is waiting for it. Each household keeps its own Formation account and subscription, which is what makes the data theirs and the grant theirs to revoke; you never pay for a client's account and never lose the CRM record if they leave.
Which custodians can a client connect?
Over 12,000 institutions through secure, read-only connections — banks, brokerages, and the private-bank custodians high-net-worth households actually use. Anything that connects to nothing is covered by statement upload (PDF, CSV, OFX/QFX) and manual entries, so the picture is complete rather than partial.
What does it cost, and can I cancel?
Three tiers: Basic at $199/mo (1 seat, 100 client households), Professional at $499/mo (unlimited team seats, 500 client households), Professional Pro at $599/mo (unlimited team seats, 750 client households). Cancel yourself from the Stripe billing portal at any time; your CRM records and client grants are preserved either way. Each tier's household count is a firm cap rather than a billing threshold — tell us before your book reaches it and we will raise the limit on your firm.

Nothing here locks you in.
Cancel from the billing portal yourself, any month. Your clients can revoke you without asking us. Your own records — every note, task and stage — survive both.
